Gawker Media Revenues Up 45%, So Much for the Adcopalypse
Last Updated on Tuesday, 28 July 2009 02:17 Written by Thord Daniel Hedengren Tuesday, 28 July 2009 02:17
Good news for Nick Denton & Co., his Gawker Media reports that revenues are up by 45% in first half of 2009. So much for that “adcopalypse” where Denton spoke about 40% decreases in ads online last year, and warned media outlets to cut their costs why they still could. Gawker Media certainly did that, but it hardly hurt them, it would seem. They even brought back the pageview bonuses . See Denton’s blog post for charts and more. O2 Users in the UK Gets Twitter Over SMS
Last Updated on Tuesday, 28 July 2009 02:12 Written by Thord Daniel Hedengren Tuesday, 28 July 2009 02:12
Twitter has announced that users of the mobile operator O2 in the UK can activate Twitter over SMS, with no extra fees or anything. Nice for them huh. Incidentally, that’s apparently a good thing for anyone trying to get in touch with a broadband carrier in the UK… Activate the whole thing in your account settings if you want to use Twitter over SMS via O2 in the UK. The Guardian Sacks Paul Carr
Last Updated on Wednesday, 22 July 2009 12:15 Written by Thord Daniel Hedengren Wednesday, 22 July 2009 12:15
Paul Carr used to write the Not Safe For Work column for The Guardian, but no more. The reason is a slashing of the freelance budget, says Carr on Twitter , and then goes on and tells us that he thought about doing the column for free but decided against it. That last part was on his blog though , which is a good thing because the reasoning would take up quite a few tweets… In the same blog post he writes a bit about leaving. Having said all that, I will miss the outlet the Guardian gave me every week; to boast and swear and talk about things that were on my mind. I’m not sure there’s another UK paper that would give me such freedom – and for that reason I’ll be eternally grateful to my former paymasters. And I’ll miss them, like a sometimes-mental, socialist former girlfriend

Sports Blog Network Secures Another $7 Million in Funding
Last Updated on Friday, 17 July 2009 05:38 Written by Thord Daniel Hedengren Friday, 17 July 2009 05:38
Former AOL executive Jim Bankoff has raised another $7 million in funding for sports blog network SB Nation , according to Kara Swisher’s blog . The valuation after this cash flow is reported to be around some $30 million. SB Nation is the kind of blog network who recruits bloggers, and they are aiming to give fan coverage for just about any sport out there. With more than 200 blogs under the SB Nation banner, I’d say they’re giving it a serious shot at least. Possibly Related Posts A Blog About a TV Network? Really?
