WP Super Cache Gets Bumped to 0.9.6.1

Donncha O Caoimh has announced the release of WP Super Cache version 0.9.6.1. This upgrade to the popular caching plugin (which really should be a part of WordPress core) brings a few bug fixes and some other things, where this should interest most users: You can now choose to not cache different types of pages on your blog. Don’t want to cache your front page? That’s easy now. The indented page types are types covered by the top type. “Archives” covers “Tag” and “Category” pages for example. That’s right, stop caching of the front page if you will. Apparently works like Conditional Tags , which sounds good.

Twitter Gets a New Front Page

Twitter just rolled out their new front page, which was known to come. I’m a bit ambivalent about it, mainly because it seems to follow all of the design trends out there at the moment. Anyway, the new front page features search from the front as well as a selection of trending topics, which is good. The reason for this is, well, I’ll let Biz Stone tell it himself : However, demonstrating the power of Twitter as a discovery engine for what is happening right now through our Search and Trends often awakens a sense of wonder which inevitably leads to a much more compelling question, “How do I get involved?” So what’s the verdict? I think it is a good thing that focus is on search

From the memo: Ever since Defamer was merged into Gawker earlier this year, I’ve been looking for the right person to hire in L.A., so I’m pleased to announce someone who was worth the wait: Richard Rushfield is joining Gawker as its new West Coast Editor.

Gawker Media Revenues Up 45%, So Much for the Adcopalypse

Good news for Nick Denton & Co., his Gawker Media reports that revenues are up by 45% in first half of 2009. So much for that “adcopalypse” where Denton spoke about 40% decreases in ads online last year, and warned media outlets to cut their costs why they still could. Gawker Media certainly did that, but it hardly hurt them, it would seem. They even brought back the pageview bonuses . See Denton’s blog post for charts and more. Jeremy Wright Steps Down, Elaine Kunda New CEO of b5media

Jeremy Wright is stepping down as CEO of blog network b5media, effective immediately, according to a press release . The new CEO is Elaine Kunda , presented as an “experienced entrepreneur”. “Elaine is exactly the right leader for b5media, with her strong leadership and proven ability to lead top performing teams,” said John Albright, managing partner of JLA Ventures. Kunda herself said this in the press release : “I believe there is an extraordinary opportunity to create additional value and new possibilities for our customers, partners and employees. The Company has accomplished a great deal in its relatively short history and I look forward to working together to take it to the next level. Wright will stay on the board of directors, but why do this now, and make it effective immediately? The answer is the ever so useful personal reasons explanation. Wright said: I was burned out, unhappy in the work I was doing and looking for something more to life. I’m still exploring what that is, but suffice to say it should involve playing around with projects, family time and consulting… while I figure out what makes me HAPPY. He also elaborates in a blog post about where to go from here, and what sparked this decision in the first place
